11x14 Original Oil on Linen
It was our last day in Venice, when I spotted this gondola, repeatedly turning in circles, going back and forth. After watching for awhile, we learned that this was a training session -- the older gentleman was mentoring his son to become a gondolier. We also learned that to become a gondolier is not easy. One must train many hours and learn to be very precise before taking the exam to be licensed. Our hotel manager indicated that there are about 400 licensed gondoliers in Venice. Who knew?
I love this and what a great memory! Love the soft colors and calm feel of the piece. Can't wait to see more!
